"Now Ruz"is Iranian new year celebration held on the Vernal Equinox Day. According to the article, this festival embodies a wealth of ancient rites and customs of Persia. In Islam, the lunar calender is usually used, but the date of Now Ruz is based on the solar calendar. And, although there were lots of disturbance, this tradition has been kept for hundreds of years. I felt it wonderful because Japanese culture had received foreign effects and changed from what it used to be.

Sorry. I assumed that I had finished 12 blogs.

In this site, various things about Korea including its culture and custom is explained. According to this, traditional Korean house is built of wood and clay and its roof is covered with straw or tiles. Structure is one-story. I feel it is very interesting because Korean house is very similar to Japanese house. I wonder how they are related to each other.

This article is about appeal by Vietnamese defoliant victims for compensation. According to the article, they were exposed to defoliant which was sprinkled by US force during the Vietnam War and their children have defects by nature. And, now, they demand of compensation to more than 30 chemical companies. I feel chemical pollution like the case of Vietnam is very dreadful because the poison remains for long time and our descendant may be harmed. We should be more careful of using technology.

North Korea invited investigators of IAEA yesterday, because unfreezing their funds had been advanced to final stage. This news means North Korea is willing to stop nuclear plants and six-nation meeting would be resumed. But I feel anxiety that making compromise with North Korea will be to our disadvantage, because North Korea may make more requests. Anyway, I don't want them to have nuclear power. Because they may cause accident at nuclear plant and illegal dumping of nuclear waste. If such things happen, Japan will be also polluted.

In this week, G8 summit was held in Heiligendamm. The most important subject of this summit was about cutting greenhouse gases to prevent global warming. And as a result of the conference, G8 countries agreed to reduce CO2 emissions by half. But they could not yet finally manage to set a numerical target, because of USA's unwilling to make concrete and binding control. Of course, it is important to discuss with each other enough. However, global warming is an imminent problem, and we have not so much more time. So I want them to make a specific plan and carry it into action immediately. I hope Japan will lead discussion powerfully at the next summit in Hokkaido.

Question:
What is the background of America's opposition to limit CO2 emissions?

Recently, large numbers of Chinese students overseas have become not to return to their homeland. It means China loses many young people of ability. According to the article, although 1.06 million students have left China since 1978, the number of students who came back is only 275,000. The reason they do so is because, in China, one's background and connections are more important than one's ability, and they cannot expect good job. This is the story in China. However, same problem may occur in Japan, too. Because Japan is also unattractive country, especially for the young. For example, welfare will probably be reduced because of declining birth rate and aging. In addition, venture businesses tend to be criticized in Japan. This problem must be solved as soon as possible, or Japan will lose its future.

Question: Did any problem occur in the countries which received Chinese people? Native people may lose their jobs.

About 5000 of animals including pangolins, Asian giant turtles, lizards and so on was found in a boat floating near the coast of China. They are the world's rarest animals. It shows that smuggling animals is still thriving. They will be used for food and medicine in China. Although China has developed their industry and is going to be one of the advanced countries, It seems that the government of China lacks control of such activities. I think this powerlessness of Chinese government is serious problem. Because it increases not only illegal trades but also industrial pollution, poisonous food additive and pirated edition. The government should take measure against this situation and also should give better moral education.

Question:
Why Chinese government cannnot control illegal activities?

This article says that production of biofuel makes many people's life misery. Biofuel is new power source which does not increase the total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, because it is made from vegetable matters (Plants assimilates CO2 while growing). Then, cultivated land is being expanded to produce more biofuel in Indonesia and Malaysia. As a result of it, indigenous people of the land lost their home, and move to the city. According to the article, most of them are poor, and become the lower class people. Besides, biofuel production will probably decrease the amount of crops, and raise food price. It wll also make poor people's life harder. Of course we must take effective measure against global warming as soon as possible. But is it allowed to force pains on the weak? Governments of each countrues must regard their rights.

This case was caused by Kim Seung-youn, a chairman of Korean business group. He avenged his son's injury on six men. According to the article, 'Victims have told police the elder Kim and his bodyguards took them to a mountainous area south of Seoul, … including hitting one of them on the back with the large steel pipe. '

Unfortunately, there seems to be similar tendency to solve problems by force all over the world, too. For example, a candidate of mayor was killed by gun in Japan last month. The reason why the criminal did it was because he had complaint against the city government. Another example is a murder case which caused by an university student in California. The origin of this incident was quarrel about theft of video game. This way to act will spoil cooperation between people. So, to establish international cooperation and world peace, we have to do away with such behavior.

As you know, global warming is very serious problem, and destroying forests is one of the most important cause of the problem. And, according to this article, Indonesia is destroying a vast extent of forest now. This situation is quite serious, because these tropical rain forests play an important role in reducing CO2 in the atmosphere. In addition, as this article says 'Indonesia is the third-largest greenhouse polluter after the United States and China, according to the group.', Indonesia is exhausting large amount of CO2, too.

But, we cannot just blame Indonesian people. There are many people who make their living by cutting trees. Besides, major consumers of those woods are the people of developed countries like us.

Questions:
1) Why Indonesia cannot depend on other kinds of industries?
2) Does Japan really need to import many woods from abroad, especially developing countries?
